La obra de Picasso es aceptada y coleccionada en la capital checa antes de la primera guerra mundial. El temprano interés se debe al coleccionista y teórico del arte Vincec Kramár, pero también a los artistas checos que visitaron París en los inicios del cubismo, y se mantuvo hasta el estallido de la segunda guerra mundial. Durante el período comunista, casi todas las obras terminan en la galería nacional de Praga, a la cual Krámar acabó donando su colección en 1960. Así, el conjunto de los "Picassos de Praga" sigue siendo uno de los más importantes del mundo y clave para el estudio del período cubista.
