Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (Aschaffenburg Alemania, 1880) uno de los representantes más importantes del Expresionismo alemán, miembro fundador del grupo Die Bru¨cke en 1905. Los rasgos que distinguieron a los integrantes de Die Brucke fue la utilización de vivos colores encerrados en formas planas sin volumen ni perspectiva y la recuperación de técnicas de grabado como la xilografía (grabado sobre madera). Los temas que vertebraron la obra de Kirchner reflejaban todo aquello que le rodeaba: la prostitución, los locales nocturnos, la agitación de la vida en las grandes ciudades, etc…
