Como en San Sebastián, llueve mucho en este libro, se visitan muchos bares y terrazas, se viaja mucho en tren y se duerme en muchos hoteles, se habla mucho de mujeres (reales y de las otras), del hecho de envejecer y de estupidez humana, se cuentan muchas anécdotas y se mira mucho alrededor. Es decir, como en cualquier otro de sus libros. Pero además, en éste en concreto, se hace finísima y personalísima crítica literaria, más atenta al análisis que a la opinión, sin privarse por ello de exhibir filias y fobias, se reflexiona en voz alta sobre nuestras limitaciones, crueldades e ingenuidades, las de todos, se hacen afirmaciones incorrectas y certeras sobre la vida y el mundo, y el autor se desnuda en él como en ningún otro libro, sustituyendo la sugerencia por la confesión directa.
