  • En 1924 un jurado compuesto por Ramón Menéndez Pidal, Antonio Machado y Gabriel Miró otorgaba el Premio Nacional de Poesía a un joven gaditano, pintor en ciernes, de nombre Rafael Alberti, por un volumen titulado "Mar y tierra". El libro representó no solo el descubrimiento de una escritura deslumbrante, sino el inicio de una carrera literaria que extendería su influencia a lo largo del siglo XX. "Marinero en tierra" —su título ya definitivo—, escrito en Madrid durante una convalecencia del autor, tenía como trasfondo la nostalgia del mar y de las salinas de El Puerto de Santa María, y como dispositivo retórico, la referencia y los recursos técnicos de la poesía popular y los cancioneros del siglo XV.
