  • Este libro surge con el propósito de vincular el presentismo a proyectos descolonizadores dentro de la teoría feminista chicana, tales como el expuesto por la historiadora Emma Pérez en The Decolonial Imaginary (1999), que anima a la revisión del papel de la mujer en la historia a través de un imaginario cultural e histórico libre de patrones de dominación. Se propone, por tanto, que el presentismo es una herramienta interpretativa viable en dichos intentos de descolonización efectuados en el ámbito de la literatura. Para ello, primero es necesario disociar este concepto del materialismo cultural del que sin duda deriva y enlazarlo con teorías relacionadas con el esteticismo y la recepción, a lo que se dedicará la primera parte de esta obra. Posteriormente, se efectuará un análisis del presentismo en dos obras del corpus feminista chicano donde se aprecia un claro intento por descolonizar el imaginario histórico y sexual: Sor Juana’s Second Dream (1999), de Alicia Gaspar de Alba, y Their Dogs Came with Them (2007), de Helena María Viramontes.
