De un tiempo a esta parte ha habido un creciente esfuerzo, desde diferentes ámbitos, por legitimar al cine en el seno de lo que tradicionalmente conocemos por Bellas Artes, atendiendo a un interés por localizar posibles analogías y aproximaciones. Por otro lado, los nuevos avances tecnológicos no han pasado desapercibidos ante el creador por las nuevas cualidades estéticas que ofrecen: la fotografía, el cine, el vídeo y, actualmente, las nuevas tecnologías digitales. Y éste es el objetivo del presente estudio, tratar de ser una aproximación a esa difusa frontera entre el cine y el arte o viceversa, y en la que esta hipótesis plástica ha podido materializarse merced al medio cinematográfico; esta actividad ha atraído a muchos artistas plásticos, principalmente, por proporcionarles una técnica que resuelve, en todo o en parte, la problemática de la estaticidad del lienzo. El texto se completa con una biofilmografía de los artistas más destacados.
