El presente ensayo pretende dar una amplia panorámica del uso heterogéneo y dispar que los creadores contemporáneos han venido haciendo con la fotografía en las últimas cuatro décadas. Resulta complejo, por no decir fútil, delimitar la frontera entre fotografía de creación y cualquier otro tipo de práctica fotográfica, pues buena parte de estos artistas han promovido la amateurización y el mestizaje del medio fotográfico como recurso estético, contraviniendo así las tesis clásicas que defendían el virtuosismo o el profundo conocimiento técnico como condición sine qua non para legitimar cualquier discurso genuino de autor.
