Las Segundas lecciones de Pellicer (1638), que dejó manuscritas y muy incompletas, pretendían complementar las anotaciones a la Soledad primera en las Lecciones solemnes de 1630), un tanto mermadas en comparación con el Polifemo. En ellas Pellicer demostraba sus conocimientos pedantescos, aplicando a los doce versos comentados un aparato de fuentes y argumentos, con uso sostenido del plagio, propuestas en ocasiones del todo peregrinas, junto con otros escolios inteligentísimos, tal como los referentes al estatuto genérico de las Soledades, de naturaleza lírica, o sobre su traza simbólica y disposición.
