  • «No hi ha sinó un problema filosòfic vertaderament seriós: el suïcidi.» Amb aquesta asseveració tan contundent s’inicia l’assaig El mite de Sísif, d’Albert Camus. Podríem pensar que es tracta només d’una exageració retòrica, amb l’objectiu de posar en el primer pla de la discussió filosòfica una qüestió que, si bé no ha deixat mai de ser-hi d’alguna manera present —aquesta antologia n’és una prova—, no ha arribat tampoc a conquerir mai l’estatut de pregunta fonamental entre els filòsofs. L’afirmació de Camus, això no obstant, no té ben res d’exagerat. La qüestió del suïcidi ens situa en un ordre de la reflexió previ a qualsevol altra pregunta filosòfica. O, dit d’una altra manera: no hi ha pregunta filosòfica que pugui arribar a tenir plenament sentit si no ens hem plantejat prèviament la qüestió del suïcidi. Perquè plantejar-se i intentar respondre qualsevol pregunta ja implica un rebuig tàcit del suïcidi, l’acceptació d’una vida que ens ha estat donada de viure només com a opció, no pas com a obligació.
