"Julius Fucik nació el 23 de enero de 1903. Tras estudiar filosofía, en 1921 ingresó en el Partido Comunista e inició su labor de crítico literario y teatral. En los años de ocupación de Checoslovaquia por Hitler, publicó bajo seudónimo ensayos sobre las figuras más representativas de la cultura democrática checoslovaca, siendo detenido en abril de 1942 por la Gestapo, en el verano de 1943 trasladado a Berlín y aquí ejecutado, el 8 de septiembre de 1943."
